Joe,
I've just finished your book and had to tell you how much I enjoyed it, but I find I really don't have the words to do it justice. It was so true, so funny and so frightening all at the same time. It took me only three sittings to go through it.
I'm a 71-year-old retired critical care nurse, independent voter with Libertarian leanings, father of three, grandfather of five. My children are, I'm sad to say, the typical TV news fans who support the war in Iraq, the president and the U.S. involvement in whatever fiasco we undertake. I credit that to their public school education. Two of the three are college grads, and the third has a very good job in communications. All of them are, as your book states, pretty happy chasing after consumer goods to fulfill their dreams of what Americans should want. Surprisingly, we still get along.
I cannot overcome Fox News and Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, but my children damned well know what I think and where I stand. I made the crossover gradually after age 40 and still have hope for them as well.
I am recommending your book to everyone I know that would benefit from it and want to thank you sincerely for putting it out there. One of the best I've ever read, and I'm a prolific reader, especially now that I have the time. I'll take it up again in a few weeks to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Incidentally, I grew up in St. Louis when it was a big city (750,000) before the exodus to the suburbs. Now I live in rural America with ten acres and a quiet life and serenity.
Thanks again,
John

John,
Thank you for taking the time to read my book and let me know your thoughts. Ya know, I am sixty and when I get letters from older, more thoughtful and mature folks, I am especially pleased. Some things take experience to understand. I was once afraid of becoming what looked to me like a crotchety old fogie, and now I find that they are the best company of all.
In art and labor,
Joe
